“Dead Memories? What does that mean anyhow?”
The term came to me as I was in action collecting images of forgotten Portland
and a friend asked me what I was doing.
I responded, “I’m collecting dead memories.”
The term stuck.
This project began in the fall of 2009 when I needed an image of the old record store on Hawthorne where I worked in the nineties. After fruitless hours of searching online for any picture at all of Bird’s Suite Records, I realized that if I started a Facebook group, I could get the group to help me find the image that I was looking for.
Within a month, the group exploded to nearly a thousand members. Now with members nearing the three-thousand mark and a cache of almost two-thousand images, I’m still looking for a photo of that old record store!
